Temporary suspended structure for viaduct maintenance
ACCADEMIA BRIDGE – ITALY
LOCATION: Venice, Grand Canal
CONTRACTOR: Pasqualucci srl and
Salmistrari srl
PURPOSE OF THE WORK: establishment
of a suspended structure for the renovation of the famous wooden
Venetian bridge.
PRODUCTS: Flydeck system with
transversal 45 cm high beams, and traditional scaffolding.
HIGHLIGHTS: Stepped traditional
scaffolding, mounted directly above the Flydeck suspended platform,
for pedestrian passage. The entire scaffolding was dismantled in 12
hours at night, so as not to interrupt tourism.
A tailor-made
Flydeck suspended structure was conceived, meticulously designed to
interfere as little as possible with the city’s daily life.
Simultaneously, this structure serves as an essential link between
the two banks of the Grand Canal. The project integrated an elegant,
suspended structure, allowing workers to comfortably work while the
upper part of the bridge remains unobstructed for the passage of
residents and visitors from all around the world.
This accomplishment
stands as an authentic engineering masterpiece. The concept of a
Flydeck structure was skillfully devised to harmoniously follow the
curve of the bridge’s intrados. In this way, the use of traditional
steps was avoided, and the walkways were created on the suspended
structure. This offers tourists an obstacle-free crossing while
ensuring the smooth flow of traffic in the historic city.
A
Flydeck area of 456.50 sqm was installed in 10 days by 2 teams of 3
workers – 10 hour shifts, and dismantled in 12 hours at
night, so as not to interrupt tourism. This achievement was only
possible thanks to the Flydeck system, thanks to its lightness and
few elements.
